Comings and Goings

School 'Resource' Officer and JCSO Dep. Neal Gardner "did not report any unusual activity occuring prior to the incident."(8068 ) To which I say he should have kept his eyes open a bit wider, because CHS and environs were indeed the scene of suspicious 'comings and goings' in the days and hours before the massacre commenced. What these episodes all have in common is any inkling of a follow-up or any attempt to investigate further on the part of the IOs. Let me count the ways:

1) (7020) A woman named Mary Webb and her son Michael notice a TCMer(TC, black boots, long black hair in a pony tail) standing by the front doors of CHS at 1:20pm on Saturday, April 17.

2) Josiah Pina(7014): On the night of the prom, Saturday, April 17, a friend's mom sees two black-clad figures go back and forth between gym and the back of the school.

3) Carol Knapke(7648 ): After-prom volunteer, sees man walking around at 11:30pm on Saturday, April 17. She is suspicious enough to "describe him in detail" to co-worker Kathy Pavilaainen.

4) Laurel Salerno(4284): On Sunday, April 18, sees three "grungy" guys in CHS parking lot. She says they are seniors or 'older', and that they walked to the west side of the school for one minute, and then returned to their car and left. They appeared to have a definite purpose in mind. She described them thusly:

First person: big, tall, red hair, flat-top(buzz-cut?)
Second person: muscular, blond hair
Third person: brown hair

5) Teresa Miller(5926): On Monday, April 19 she sees two boys(sleeveless T-shirts, blue jeans) pushing a large box (big enough to hold a big-screen TV) on a dolly into the school.

Tuesday, April 20

6) Shawna Gesselin(1521 and 6424): At 6:20am she sees four cars parked side-by-side in the senior parking lot, which she thinks is odd because of the early hour.

7) Sarah Roasberrry(4210): At 7:20 sees three cami-wearing 'subjects' in the main hall of CHS(the SPs?).

8 ) Ashly Pimley(4071): In the morning at some point Stephanie Lesback's dad sees a green mini-van parked in front of the Mormon House with a bunch of TCMers gathered around it.

9) Barbara Karnakusis(7523): At about 7:30am, sees a group of 5-6 white males standing at the corner of Pierce and 1st Street south of the school. They are dressed in black, and one looked older-in his mid-20s-with short blond hair. Two of them are sitting on a large black backpack.

10) Lindsay Ludwig(6815): In the junior parking lot at 9am sees two males who appear to be hiding near a white pick-up truck.

11) Steve Ogle(1056): Sees cop car with "clearly marked police insignia" parked in one of the CHS lots sometime that morning, pre-11am. Often mentioned by me, never explained.

12) Drew Cassidy(7459): 10yr old Drew sees 4 guys in black clothing drive by his house(5245 W. Ottawa Place) in a light blue compact car, yelling in a different language(German?) at 10am.

13) J. Adams(7422) and Roger Anderson(7430): Construction workers, they see a black BMW carrying 4 teenagers followed by a small tan car with 2 people drive in and out of a cul-de-sac near Caley and Pierce, followed five minutes later by the sound of bombs. According to video teacher Gary Talocco(8976), roof repairman Gary Clark told him he saw 3 people exit a vehicle with H&K, and that a tan vehicle followed them into the lot. Clark denies he ever said any such thing.

Aftermath

14) Dana Baylis(8912): Manager of a 7-11 near Kennedy High School, she sees 3 males, including one wearing TC(tall, slender, long blonde hair, shoulder length) enter her store at 1:55pm, acting 'strange' and 'nervous'. They deny any knowledge of what's going on at CHS.

15) Lisa Mckenna(7541): The mother of a CHS student, at 6:30 she sees a late '80s white Nissan or Toyota pull into the driveway of the home of neighbor Stephanie Plank(7024). Sees 5-6 kids(4 boys, 2 girls) exit vehicle

"high-fiving each other....They were celebrating like the excitement of winning a football game."

Mckenna recalled one of the boys as having long, dirty blond hair and wearing dark pants. None of the kids was wearing a trench coat. Months later, after classes had resumed at Chatfield, she sees a red Geo Metro drop students off at the same location.

16) Lt James Smith, Boulder PD SWAT(8305): AT about 11:30pm, "...we overheard radio traffic that 4 or 5 persons in uniform had made an unescorted entry through the east entry door. Several minutes later we observed 4 people walk out of a door on the northwest side of the school. All 4 were wearing jump suits with ATF markings. We were asked to contact the individuals and find out who they were."

17) Eric Carline(7451): A homeowner in Klebold's neighborhood. On Saturday, April 17 he hears gunshots coming from the area of Deer Creek Canyon Park(aka Denver Mountain Park), very close to homes. He yells for the shooter to knock it off, and thinks no more of it. Until April 26, when he notices a white male, late 20s or early 30s, looking for something in the same area. He thinks it might be the spent shell casings, and is suspicious enough to take down a license plate number.

According to the police, the vehicle is registered to a Jeffrey Harthan, white male, 150lbs, 6'0", blond, 34 years old.

Does he have anything to do with the shooting? There is no indication that he does, but why would he suddenly feel the need to gather up the spent shell casings? And why are there Redacted areas in Carline's statement. Most odd.

Speaking of a red geo metro: Brian Anderson's interview says this:
"He (Brian) spoke with a friend who he identified as (redacted). According to Brian (redacted) told him that later in the afternoon on 4-20-99, he had seen an ex-student, unidentified, driving in the area of Caley Ave. in a red Geo metro. According to Brian (redacted) told him the ex-student was holding a gun in his hand. (redacted) told him after seeing this he went to notify state patrol." (pg.184)

Interesting how Caley Ave. is also mentioned again.
